STEP 1: Add everything in a mixing bowl

Add all ingredients except parsley in a large mixing bowl.

Use two forks or just your hands to mix everything together until combined. You might think you need milk but not in this recipe. Cream cheese is moist enough to hold everything together.

Use a tablespoon to scoop out a portion of the meatball mixture. Make small balls and place them on a 9x13 inch baking dish greased with cooking spray.

I don't have Biscuit Mix. What Should I do?

You can make Sausage and Cheese Balls WITHOUT Biscuit Mix. You can simply use self-raising flour. Or just combine 2 cups all purpose flour with 1 tablespoon baking powder, 1/3 cup shortening or 1/3 cup melted unsalted butter and 1 teaspoon salt.

Variations

You can tweak the recipe as per your taste palate.

  • Spicy - add chili pepper flakes while making the mixture to imbue heat into the dish. You can add Cajun Seasoning if you like it spicy.
  • Ground Aromatics - Instead of chopped yellow onions and finely minced garlic you can simply use onion powder and garlic powder.
  • Green Onions - Instead of chives you can use chopped green onions.
  • Herbs - You can add in Italian Seasoning or fresh chopped parsley or cilantro in the mixture if you want a nice herby taste.
  • Vegan - Instead of ground italian sausages you can use chickpeas or tofu to make this vegan.

Can I Make this in the Air Fryer

Yes. Air Fryer will reduce your cooking time and will make the recipe much healthier. You can see this Air Fryer Turkey Meatballs recipe or Firecracker Chicken Meatballs in Air Fryer

Air Fryer will make your sausage and cheese balls crispier in a much shorter time. So, I guess its definitely worth a try.

Make it Ahead of Time

To make these balls ahead of time simply roll them into balls. Cover with a plastic wrap or a heavy duty aluminium foil. Refrigerate. When ready to bake proceed with the baking instructions.

Storage

Although it's very rare that you have leftovers of this delicious sausage balls. But in case you do, here is how to store it.

  • Refrigerate - Refrigerate sausage balls within 2 hours of cooking. Place them in a shallow bowl. Cover tightly with a plastic wrap or a heavy duty aluminium foil. Refrigerate for 3-4 days in the refrigerator.
  • Freeze - Freeze sausage and cheese balls in an airtight container. These balls can be stored for 3-4 months if stored properly.
  • Reheating - Thaw overnight in the refrigerator and then reheat it in the oven. Place them in a preheated oven at 350 degrees F and bake for 20-minutes.
