Yum Yum Sauce - Why pay so much for a bottled Yum Yum Sauce when you can make the exact same thing at home. Creamy, Garlicky, Sweet, Saucy, and just a wee bit spicy, this goes so well with Hibachi Fried Rice.

Long story short, you cannot have Hibachi meals without Yum Yum Sauce. It's so easy to make (well not particularly for me, I had to try several times to perfect the recipe) and tastes irresistibly Good.

The best part about Yum yum Sauce is that you'll have most of the ingredients in your pantry. Yum Yum Sauce is made of butter, sugar, ketchup, Mayonnaise, Salt, Cayenne Pepper, Garlic Powder, Ground Black Pepper, Onion Powder, and Red Pepper Flakes.

You can easily serve this over Juicy Baked Chicken breasts or Crispy Baked Chicken Wings.

Basically, it all about the ratio of ingredients. You can thin it out if you want to drizzle it over rice or you can keep it thick if you want to use it as a dipping sauce.

This Popular Japanese Steak House Sauce goes perfectly well with grilled chicken, grilled Shrimps, Shrimp Fried Rice, and also noodles like Black Pepper Noodles or Vegetable Chow mein or Vegetable Lo Mein.

You won't find this Sauce in Japan. Why is that?

This is a strange fact though. Even though this is a popular Japanese sauce, but you won't actually find this in Japan. This is because it is an American creation. Much like How Orange Chicken is not Chinese but an American creation.

It is very hard to tell who invented this sauce, but, research tells me that it was Terry Ho - "teppanyaki restaurant owner" who bottled it in bulk and sold it to the masses. You can learn more about the Origin of Yum Yum Sauce from the NPR website.

Yum Yum Sauce widely is popular in America and Canada. This creamy light orange color sauce will definitely be a part of your Hibachi Meals. I have often thought about how to make it. The strange thing about this sauce is that the recipe for Yum Yum Sauce looks so easy, but it is actually a matter of ratio that gives it the perfect Steakhouse taste!

Hibachi Steakhouse Style Sauce

Yum Yum Sauce is a classic condiment that you will definitely find alongside Hibachi dishes. Basically, the Hibachi cooking method is a technique where seafood or meat is seared on a hot metal cooking surface. And, if there is anything that goes well with this style of cooking then it is this creamy Yum Yum Sauce.

Ingredients you need to make Yum Yum Sauce

  • Mayonnaise: Creamy mayonnaise is an essential part of this sauce. But, please do not substitute Mayonnaise with Sour Cream or Greek Yogurt.
  • Ketchup: Ketchup has a tanginess, sweetness, and slight acidity that works so well for this sauce. Many people use tomato paste instead.
  • Butter: To add a buttery smoothness I always add some melted butter in my recipe for Yum Yum Sauce.
  • Sugar: Sugar adds that light sweetness and balances out the acidity in this sauce.
  • Cayenne Pepper: Many People add Paprika instead. But, Cayenne has a sharp which helps the sauce taste so good.
  • Garlic Powder - It adds that garlicky kick to the sauce.
  • Onion Powder - It adds more flavors to the sauce.
  • Salt and Pepper - To balance the seasoning in the sauce
  • Crushed Red Pepper flakes - Adds that light heat that you need to make this sauce.

How to Make Yum Yum Sauce

There are no steps to make this sauce. All that you need to do is simply stir everything in a small bowl. You can thin it out with water or you can keep it thick to make it a dipping sauce.

How to Store Yum Yum Sauce

You can store Yum Yum store in an air-tight container and keep it in your refrigerator for up to a week. But, this doesn't freeze well. So, it is better if you don't freeze it.
