How to make Peppermint Bark Candy at home?

- First, line a baking sheet with Parchment Paper. Melt Dark Chocolate in an Oven at a 30-second increment with a drop of Pure Peppermint extract. Once it's smooth pour it into the baking sheet with Parchment paper. In place of dark chocolate, you can either use almond bark or Melting Dark Chocolate wafers. You can also melt your chocolate on the stovetop. In case you want to melt it over the stovetop, you can bring a pot of water to a boil. Now place a large bowl on the pot of boiling water. Place chocolate in the bowl and stir until it melts. Pour your melted chocolate in the baking sheet and leave it in the fridge for 30-minutes or (speed up the cooling process by placing it in the freezer for 15-minutes)
- Melt White Chocolate Bar in a baking dish. I like to use Lindt Classic White Chocolate Bar. You can also use a pack of Melting White Chocolate Wafers. Melt it at an increment of 30-second. You can also melt it on the stovetop.
- Pour the melted white chocolate into the baking dish and smoothen it out with a wooden spatula or rubber spatula.
- Immediately Top with crushed Holiday Peppermint candy canes.
- Place it in the freezer until it sets.
- Once you want to serve, cut with a chef's knife or just break it.
How to Melt Chocolate on a stovetop?
- First, bring a large pot of water to boil over medium heat. As the water starts boiling reduce heat to low and place a large heatproof (preferably glass) bowl on the pot. Remember the bowl should be large enough so that it doesn't touch the water surface.
- Place Melting Dark Chocolate Wafers or Semi-Sweet Chocolate Baking Bar into the bowl. Keep stirring occasionally until chocolate melts completely. (Hey! That rhymed!!)
- And, Voila! Your Melted Chocolate is READY!!!! Easy right?
How Do I break these Peppermint Bark Candies?
- You can either break it with your hand. I generally use my hands because it's the easiest way to do it.
- But, in case you aren't able to break it with your hands, you can use the flat side of your meat tenderizing hammer to get the job done.
- You can also use a rolling pin to break these peppermint bark candies.
How to Store these Peppermint Bark Candy?

Well, the chances are low that you can save some of it. But in case you are making this ahead of time, you can do the following.
- Store this in an airtight container and keep it in a cool and dry place. Ideally, you should keep it at a temperature less than 70°F
- You do not need to store them in the refrigerator. You can keep them on the countertop sealed in an airtight container for several weeks.
- In case if you want to store them for a longer period (7-8 months) then you can wrap each bite-sized piece with wax paper or a parchment paper or plastic wrap. Then keep them in an air-tight container. Now you can freeze them without a shadow of a doubt.
- When thawing makes sure you do not open the plastic wrap or else there will be condensation on the bark.
Peppermint Candy Bark: Replacements & Substitutions
- Almond Bark or Melting Chocolate Wafers: You can replace the Semi-Sweet Chocolate baking bar with Almond Bark or Melting Chocolate wafers.
- White Chocolate Wafers: You can use White Chocolate wafers instead of a White Chocolate baking bar.
- Peppermint Oil: In case you are out of peppermint extract, you can use Peppermint oil instead. But, make sure you get the quantity right. Generally, for 1 teaspoon of peppermint extract, you can use 1/4 teaspoon of peppermint oil. In this recipe, you can replace 1/2 teaspoon of peppermint extract with 1/8 teaspoon of peppermint oil.
Important Tips You cannot afford to Miss:
While Making Peppermint Candy Barks, you cannot afford to miss these important tips. These tips come after years of getting it right.
- Do Not use Spearmint Extract Or Mint extract in Place of Peppermint Extract. I know it sounds and looks the same in the extract isle of the grocery store. But it so not. Mint is basically a combination of Spearmint and Peppermint. So, it has a toothpaste-like taste. Spearmint has low menthol content (0.5%) and therefore it is used in gums. But, Peppermint has about (40% Menthol) and therefore it goes well with chocolate. So, make sure you use Pure Peppermint Extract.
- Do not keep your candy canes crushed for a long time. All of it might get stuck to each other and become an unwanted blob due to humidity. So crush them right before using.
- Use a large baking dish (9x13 inch) or a half sheet pan.
- Make sure you grease it with cooking spray and line with parchment paper.
- Use a rolling pin or flat side of meat tenderizing hammer to break the Peppermint candy bark.
