Dumplings are one of my favorite take out foods. Whenever I am going through a tiring day or it's Sunday night and I'm busy binge-watching Netflix, I quickly make these steamed Vegetable Dumplings.

It's a really easy recipe, needing about 30 minutes in total. You can easily make Dumplings from scratch at home.

The first time I made Steamed Dumplings, I made it with Veggies. I had Cabbage, Beans, Carrots, Jalapenos, and Peppers in my dumpling stuffing. I loved it. Dumplings are ideally served with soup.

So, I quickly made a cup of instant soup and enjoyed it with my dumplings. Although the shapes weren't perfect, I was still happy with what I made 🙂

Dumplings - most popular Asian snacks which can send back hunger on a long holiday. Seriously, whenever I'm hungry I have dumplings. Be it lunch, dinner or snacks.

Though until a few years back, I had never made it at home and whenever I thought of dumplings I thought of those street-side vendors in India who used to sell them every single day.

People used to flood their stores. In fact, in some of the popular places there used to queues. And that seller would open his steamer and pick out large, firm dumplings and serve it in a small paper plate alongside some mayonnaise and a small glass of soup. Dumplings are best enjoyed steaming hot.

I remember putting it in my mouth and jumping around screaming - "Gosh! It's so hot!" And then having some soup too cool down the taste palette. But in the next few minutes that steaming hot dumplings would become the best thing that your taste buds had tasted in ages. I promise you, that you will crave more!

After I made them at home, I liked it so much, that now I make it as often as I can. Today, I decided to teach you guys how to make dumplings at home. After all, what's the fun in having it alone? And, the best part was that it hardly takes any time. And, before I forget to tell you - this is hands down healthy! Of course, you can fry them if you want. But, dumplings according to me are best served steamed.

Those soft small white dumplings with so many flavors within can be easily called the best Asian recipe out there.

So, Let's Make Some Dumplings Today

To make dumplings you'll need some white rice flour. Well, if you haven't got rice flour you can also use wheat flour. But, with rice flour, the taste is something else. So, what do we do with our flour? Well, we make our dough! Make a soft rice flour dough and keep it aside. Let the dough on which you have worked so hard, relax for a while.

In the meantime, let's pulse our veggies in the food processor. If you haven't got a food processor, then quickly chop them up. I'll be right here waiting for you.

Once your veggies are ready, its time to give them a little tour into the saucepan so that we can saute them real nice. Season them with salt and pepper so that they don't taste bland.

Get your rolling board and roll out small rounds from your dough. When the veggies are cool enough to work with, fill them in the dough and seal it from the top. Yes, it's that simple.

If we were making pork dumplings we would be cooking our pork and stuffing it here. If we would be making chicken dumplings then we would be using minced and sauteed chicken and using it here. If we would be using beef then we would be sauteing them and stuffing it right here.

Now coat your dumplings with some oil and let them steam in the steamer for 5-7 minutes.

Be patient! Give them time and you can prepare your soup in the mean-time. Finally, you have made dumplings at home! I can guarantee you that these will taste awesome. Get ready to click some excellent photos so that you can share it with your Instagram friends. I can tell you that this awesome smell of dumplings being ready will be creating bubbles of excitement in your belly. You will be getting impatient to open the steamer and check. But, don't do that at least until the first five minutes. Let the dumplings grab as much steam as they can so that they are well cooked and ready for you.

And, when they are ready, you can sprinkle some pepper or garam masala on the top and enjoy your steamed vegetable dumplings with mayonnaise, spicy hot chilli sauce or ketchup.

What kind of Flour is used for Dumplings?

Traditionally White Rice Flour which is gluten-free is used for Dumplings. It makes Dumplings really soft. However because there is no gluten, you need to use warm water to knead a soft dough for your Dumplings.
