How to Cook Rice on Stove Top

You know, its actually extremely easy to cook rice on the stove top. And not mushy rice. Absolutely fluffy, bright and perfectly cooked Rice on the stove top is easy to make.

The Correct Way to Cook Rice

You can trust on this recipe. Its a no fail recipe to make absolutely perfect cooked rice on the stove top. Skip all those gadgets like Instant Pot, Pressure Cooker, Slow Cooker and make absolutely perfect and fluffy cooked rice on the stove top.

METHOD 1

STEP 1: RINSE

  • First take the measured amount of rice in a fine mesh strainer
  • Wash it under tap water.
  • DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP. Washing the rice before cooking washes away excess starch from the rice yielding you perfectly cooked and fluffy rice which is not at all gummy.

STEP 2: MEASURE AND ADD RICE & WATER

  • Measure the perfect ratio of rice and water. The perfect ratio for rice to water is 1:11/2. i.e for each 1 cup of Rice you need 1 1/2 cups of water.
  • Add this to a dutch pot or saucepan
  • Add a teaspoon of Olive Oil or any neutral tasting oil.
  • Stir to combine. Cover and cook over medium high heat for 10-15 minutes.

STEP 3: FLUFF THE RICE

  • After 15 min, fluff the rice using a fork and serve hot.

METHOD 2

STEP 1: RINSE UNCOOKED RICE

  • Rinse the uncooked rice using a fine mesh strainer and set aside

STEP 2: COOK THE RICE

  • Add the Rice & Water to the dutch pot or a saucepan
  • Add a teaspoon of Olive Oil or any other Neutral tasting oil
  • Stir to combine. Cover and Cook the Rice over medium high heat for 10-15 min.

STEP 3: DRAIN THE RICE

  • Drain the rice under cold water

  • Doing this will get rid of the excess starch from the rice making them fluffy
  • Fluff the rice using a fork and serve.

After you've cooked rice you can garnish with some chopped Cilantro and Lime juice to make Cilantro Lime Rice.

Also sometimes just a dollop of butter is enough to serve cooked rice with any of your favorite Indian Curries or Thai Curries or Sweet and Spicy Asian Recipes.

HINT

Rinsing the rice before cooking gets rid of unwanted starch, making them fluffy after being cooked.

A trick to perfectly cooked rice is to drain it after getting cooked. This will wash off all the extra starch giving you perfectly cooked rice which is fluffy and soft and not at all gummy!

What is the correct Rice to Water Ratio?

The Correct ratio of Rice to Water is 1: 1 1.5 i.e for each 1 cup of Uncooked Rice you will need 1 1/2 cups of Water.

HOW TO COOK RICE IN AN INSTANT POT

  • Rinse Rice using a fine mesh strainer
  • Add it to the Instant Pot along with measured amount of water and a teaspoon of Olive Oil or any Neutral tasting cooking oil.
  • Cover with lid and pressure cook for 5 min.
  • After the cooking is done, allow natural release of pressure for 5 min.
  • Get the rise out and fluff using a fork.
  • Serve immediately.

HOW TO COOK RICE IN MICROWAVE

  • Rinse the uncooked rice using a fine mesh strainer.
  • Add it to a large cooking bowl along with measured amount of water along with a teaspoon of Olive Oil or any Neutral Tasting Cooking Oil.
  • Cover with lid and microwave on full power for 10 min.
  • Check to see if all the water is soaked. If not microwave for 2-3 more minutes.
  • Drain the rice under cold water.
  • Fluff using a fork and serve.

HOW TO COOK RICE IN NINJA FOODI

  • Pour Rice and Water into the pot of your Ninja Foodi
  • Add a teaspoon of any neutral tasting cooking oil. Stir to combine
  • Cover with the pressure cooker lid and secure the nozzle to seal position
  • Pressure Cook Rice on High for 3 min
  • Allow the pressure to release naturally for 10 min (just let it as is, do nothing)
  • Now, turn the Nozzle to Vent Position
  • Fluff using a fork and serve.

How to Store Rice

Store leftover cooked rice in an airtight container in the refrigerator. You can store leftover rice in the refrigerator for about a week.

Reheat in the microwave at full power or in the stove top with 1/2 cup of water and heat until the rice gets cooked.

  • Use this recipe to cook White Rice and not Brown Rice or Wild Rice
  • Always rinse uncooked Rice using a fine mesh strainer before cooking. This gets rid of excess starch from the rice.
  • The ratio of Rice to Water is 1: 1 1/2 US Cups.
