- Flour
- Panko Breadcrumbs
- Asian Ginger Garlic Paste

👩🍳 How to Make Sesame Shrimps
Step 1: Make the Sauce

In a medium-sized mixing bowl combine Soy Sauce, Honey, Sriracha, Apple Cider Vinegar, Ketchup, Sesame Oil, and Water. Whisk lightly. I like to keep the ingredients for the sauce simple.
Step 2: Air fry Shrimps

In a shallow plate layout all your shrimps. Coat them in flour and Panko breadcrumbs. Air Fry shrimps for 12-minutes at 400°F or 200°C. Air fried Shrimps are so crispy and they save you so much.
Step 3: Simmer Sauce

In a sauté pan I like to add some Sesame Oil. Once the oil shimmers, I like to add some Asian Ginger Garlic paste. This is easily available in the Asian section of supermarkets. Asian Ginger Garlic paste has a sharp taste and it makes your work so much easier. You can totally replace this with minced garlic and grated ginger. Finally, pour the sauce and simmer for a while.
Step 4: Add Cornstarch Slurry

The idea behind adding cornstarch slurry is just to thicken the sauce. You don't want your sesame shrimp sauce to be too runny.
Step 5: Serve with shrimps
Finally, I just add my shrimps and garnish it with chopped parsley, sesame seeds, and green onions. So, that's how you make Sesame Shrimps in Air fryer.

🥘 How to Cook Shrimps in a Skillet
Of course, if you don't have an air fryer yet, then you can cook your shrimp in your sauté pan. Cooking shrimps is super easy. But, you've got to keep a close eye. Always remember two things - NO Overcooking and NO Overcrowding the pan.
- Just heat some sesame oil in a skillet.
- Coat Shrimps in Flour and Panko breadcrumbs. Shake off any excess.
- Place them in a single layer in your skillet.
- Do not overcrowd the pan.
- Cook on medium-high until they turn opaque and light red on the edges.
- Do not overcook shrimps as they'll turn chewy.
- Flip over and cook the other side as well.
🍤 Can I use Cornstarch instead of Flour to coat shrimps?
Of course, you can. Cornstarch works just the same as flour. It helps your shrimp form a super-crispy outer crust. As a result, your shrimps soak up the juices and tastes really amazing.
How Do I Make Cornstarch Slurry?
Making Cornstarch slurry is super-easy. All you have to do is combine 1 tablespoon of cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of cold water. Stir well until there are no lumps. And that's it. Your Cornstarch slurry is ready!
Can I replace Soy Sauce with Tamari?
Yes you definitely can replace Soy Sauce with Tamari. Tamari will make your recipe gluten-free. And, also if you are avoiding food items with high sodium content then it is best that you replace soy sauce with tamari.
FYI: Soy Sauce contains 900 mg sodium per tablespoon whereas Tamari contains just 232 mg per tablespoon. (this is an approximate value)
What Can I replace with Sriracha?
Sriracha is a popular hot sauce that can be replaced with Peri-peri Sauce and even Harissa. Both these sauces will match the spice level and heat content of Sriracha.
If not them then you can also use Tabasco sauce or cayenne Pepper or Red Pepper flakes.
Can I use Rice Wine Vinegar instead of Cider Vinegar?
Of course! Both works are almost the same. Only apple cider vinegar tends to be more potent than rice wine vinegar. Moreover, cider vinegar adds a nice fruity tartness to the recipe.
If you don't have vinegar at home, then just replace it with lemon juice.
Is it necessary to use Sesame Oil?
Well yes, it is. I would have said you can replace sesame oil with any other oil but since we are making sesame shrimps, it is best that you use sesame oil to make this recipe.
Should I use Light Sesame oil or Toasted Sesame Oil?
I would say you can use either of the two. But, experts suggest that toasted sesame oil has got a bolder flavor compared to light sesame oil.
In my personal opinion, I think both of them are equally delicious. And, if I don't have one, I always have the other. I like Toasted sesame oil more because of its sharp and bold flavors. But, light sesame oil has a nutty taste which is equally amazing.
Can I make this recipe with Frozen Shrimps?

Yes, you definitely can make Sesame Shrimps with Frozen Shrimps. Frozen Shrimps that have been cleaned and deveined will work extremely well for this recipe.
BUT, make sure you thaw it out on the countertop until it is completely defrosted.
📝 Suggest me some Substitutes for Panko Breadcrumbs
I love Panko. And, who doesn't right. It gets your food crispy and makes it taste so good.
But, if you don't have panko, no need to fret about it. You can replace Panko with regular breadcrumbs, crushed pretzels, crushed crackers, crushed potato chips or crushed tortilla chips.
It won't be the same though and also look out for salt content in crushed potato chips or crushed crackers.

Signs of a Pefectly cooked Shrimp
Cooking shrimps looks easy but is a tricky business.
