Apple butter in a crockpot is a smooth creamy and delectable side dish that you can enjoy with your warm toast or you can add it to your desserts. It's a must make for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Add apples to the bottom of the crock pot. Combine sugar, ground cinnamon, grated nutmeg, ground ginger, ground cloves, and kosher salt in a bowl. Pour this mixture over your apples into the crock pot.
Cover the crock pot with a lid. Cook on Low for 8-10 hours stirring occasionally. Cook until dark brown and thick.
Use an immersion blender to puree your apple butter until smooth and creamy. Stir in lemon juice and garnish with lemon zest.
Store your apple butter in a clean glass jar. Refrigerate for 2 weeks or freeze.
Serve it in warm toast or make some recipes with it.
Notes
Always use a combination of Granny Smith, Fuji, and Pink Lady or Honey Crisp to make your apple butter. A combination of different apples is the best when making apple butter.
This is not an apple butter canning recipe.
You can stir in pure vanilla extract and cook for another 1 hour for added taste and flavor.
